Organizational and Operations Capacity Alignment (LAE-SDI v1.0)
Instructions & Explanation
How to Use the Operations Capacity Alignment Simulator
Use the interactive sliders below to model how customer order volume, maintenance reinvestment, automation improvements, and emergency overdrive affect operational capacity and SLA throughput over a 60-period horizon.
Simulator Controls
- Order Volume / Demand (D): Customer demands, throughput requirements, and total operational workload.
- Reinvestment & Maintenance (R): Infrastructure maintenance, employee time-off, process upkeep, and capital reinvestment.
- Process Innovation / Tech (I): Automation improvements, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and institutional learning.
- Emergency Overdrive Limit (Amax): Maximum temporary buffer achieved through overtime, unbudgeted contractor costs, and emergency spending.
- Friction / Wear Factor (α): Operational depletion rate per unit of unmitigated workload stress.
- Target SLA / Revenue (P):** Contractual SLA targets, revenue goals, or required production volume.
Interpreting the Results
- Institutional Health Index (SDI): Calculates long-term operational viability.
- Below 1.0 (SUSTAINABLE GROWTH): Reinvestment and process optimization continuously maintain institutional capacity.
- 1.0 to 1.5 (LATENT FRICTION): Service levels and output remain target-aligned purely through overtime, emergency spending, and team strain.
- Above 1.5 (OPERATIONAL BREAKDOWN): Overdrive buffers are exhausted, causing sudden drops in output, key personnel turnover, or systemic failure.
- The Dynamic Chart:
- Operational Capacity (Amber): True underlying infrastructure, employee stamina, and institutional health.
- Output / Revenue (Green): Delivered output, SLA adherence, or quarterly revenue.
- Emergency Overdrive (Dashed Blue): Temporary operational compensation masking capacity depletion.
- Collapse Boundary (Dashed Red): Critical threshold where capacity failure triggers a non-linear drop in service levels.
Organizational & Operations Capacity Alignment Simulator
Simulating Operational Capacity C(t), Service Output P(t), Emergency Overdrive Buffer A(t), and Institutional Health Index (SDI).
Model Formulation, Equations & Normalization Assumptions
Governing Equations:
- Operational Capacity Dynamics:
dC/dt = β·R + I − γ·D, with C(t) clamped to [0, C0] - Institutional Health Index:
SDI = (γ·D) / (β·R + I) - Emergency Overdrive Effort:
A(t) = min(Amax, max(0, P* − φC)), whereφC = (C(t)/C0)·P* - Overdrive Limit:
Ccrit = C0 · max(0, 1 − Amax/P*)
Units & Parametric Assumptions:
All organizational metrics are dimensionless normalized units. The baseline maintenance scale
β = 1.0 quantifies routine upkeep, the friction multiplier is set to
γ = 1.2·α as a modeling convention, C0 = 100, and the horizon is
60 model periods. Higher wear factors (α) reflect structural friction or supply-chain
overhead within the illustrative framework.
Interpretive boundary: SDI < 1 indicates that modeled reinvestment and innovation exceed modeled operational demand; SDI = 1 is the balance boundary; SDI > 1 indicates net modeled capacity depletion. This simulator is an illustrative mathematical model and is not a forecasting or operational-risk certification instrument.
